Abstract: An exploration of late-Victorian ideals of masculinity and femininity, as well as masculine-feminine social and economic roles, through the pages of the Thunder Bay Sentinel (a weekly newspaper, Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada). Key themes are sexual conduct (gender, sex-role), paid and unpaid labour, and respectable leisure activities for men and women.
