Abstract: The purpose of this thesis is to examine the extant publications printed in 1581, to discover their purposes, scope, variety and their range of interests and subject matter. The purpose is also to ascertain if any pattern existed in the publications from 1581. The books are discussed in terms of their individual contents as well as how they reflect the cultural conditions which produced them.
