Thirty wood-rot fungi were screened for their ability to grow on media containing Kraft lignin with a limited amount of glucose. Of these fungi, twenty-three were tested for ligninolytic activity judged by decolorization of lignin. Four species: Absidia cylindrospora, Piptoporus betulinus, Cylindrocladium camelliae and Gleoephyllum trabeum were selected for further studies because they decolorized lignin after 3 weeks of culture by 9, 11, 26, 9%, respectively.en_US
