In this thesis, we utilize the hydrodynamical model to evaluate the potential energy and self-energy for an electron and a hydrogen atom placed between two semi-infinite metal slabs. The potentials and self-energies are obtained by taking into account of the dispersion of the surface plasmons and the effect of confinement by the metal slabs.
