Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of success and failure on self-esteem, locus of control and the relationship between these two variables. One hundred and four introductory psychology students were divided into three groups. The first group was administered easy anagrams that allowed for correct solutions which resulted in an experience of success. The second group was given impossible anagrams which resulted in a failure experience. The third group was used as a control group, and was given a neutral experience which did not entail success or failure.
